You made it.

It’s Friday. And for the first time in a long time, you get to end the day with some Blackhawks hockey.

The Hawks play Detroit tonight with the following line-up. Looks like junior-bound **Nick Lardis** and **AJ Spellacy** are getting another preseason game.

**Frank Nazar** is going to want to make an impression tonight. I’d say that’s the only thing worth watching. Everything else, you can chill-out on. Not sure why **Ethan Del Mastro** isn’t in the line-up.

If you’re wondering who [**Austin Strand**](https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/161123/austin-strand?ref=eatthehatchet.mymagic.page#google%5Fvignette) is (that defenseman paired with **Isaak Phillips**), he’s an AHLer who made an impression on Luke Richardson. I imagine Richardson rewarded him with a preseason game for his performance in training camp. Strand is not under contract for the Hawks.

Nothing worth talking about Hawks-wise today, so instead you get a beefed-up trash bin. Enjoy your weekend, I’ll be back on Monday.

### Derrick Rose Retires

On Thursday Derrick Rose officially retired from the NBA.

I don’t follow the NBA like I used to when I was younger. But I remember very clearly when the Bulls drafted Rose. The hometown kid from Englewood was exciting to watch and made every Bulls game fun.

There was a lot of dreaming of what the future could look like. Playoffs were just a tease of what could happen with Rose and the Bulls. The 2009 series against the Celtics was unforgettable.

I ended up leaving for the Marine Corps shortly after, but I kept tabs on Rose. Hearing about the injuries sucked. The Bulls always got close but couldn’t go all the way. Every year felt like it was the same story with that team.

There’s talk about retiring no. 1 in the United Center. Rose’s impact on the city of Chicago was a lot more than the points he put up on the board.

### The Apostle

Continuing the theme of sharing my thoughts on horror films, this next one was a weird, but fun movie.

*The Apostle* takes place in 1905 on a remote island somewhere near the British Isles (I think). The main character is traveling to this island in an attempt to rescue his sister who is being held for ransom by a cult. Thomas gains entry on the island by pretending to be a new initiate of this cult.

It’s an unsettling movie and I don’t want to give too much away because there’s so much mystery tied in with the plot.

But it’s good.

Much like *The Ritual*, it’s more atmospheric and creepy than in-your-face horror. There is gore, but not *Saw*\-level gore (except for the human wine-cork scene… that was brutal).

Ending was weird but overall this was a good one and gets my recommendation.

Here’s some skating from Swiss crew, colourgroup (cg). Their latest video, IMAGINE PEACGE, showcases some creative tricks from a tightnight group of homies. Check out [Free Skateboard Mag’s](https://www.freeskatemag.com/2024/09/26/the-thrill-of-it-all/?ref=eatthehatchet.mymagic.page) piece on cg.
